Their next chapter starts with YOU.
Grab a book and find your feline audience—Rescue Readers is returning to HSSC!
Rescue Readers gives students in 1st through 3rd Grade a fun, low-pressure place to practice reading aloud while providing enrichment and companionship to shelter cats.
During each 30-minute session, young readers will settle in near one of our cat kennels and read aloud. Whether they’re sounding out new words, working on fluency or becoming more confident readers, there’s no pressure from their furry audience over a missed word or tricky sentence. Our cats are simply happy to have the company!
And our readers aren’t the only ones who benefit. Hearing a gentle, steady voice provides our shelter cats with enrichment and quiet companionship during their stay at HSSC.
- Location: Humane Society of Sheboygan County
- Readers: 1st–3rd Grade
- Advance registration required
Important: Cats will remain in their kennels during regular Rescue Readers sessions, and direct interaction with an animal is not guaranteed. A parent or legal guardian must complete a waiver before participation, but adult supervision throughout sessions is provided.
