Lost a pet?

If you have lost your pet, please submit a Lost Pet Form by clicking the green button below. With your approval, we will share your pet’s information on our Facebook page to help reunite you as quickly as possible.

Before submitting the form, we strongly encourage you to check the Petco Love Lost directory to see all pets currently at our shelter who arrived as strays. If your pet is not currently in our care, we can help spread the word.

To maximize your chances of finding your pet:

  1. Search our shelter directory (below)
  2. Register your lost pet on Petco Love Lost to broaden your search network
  3. Submit our Lost Pet Form so we can post on Facebook as an added local boost

Found Pets/Strays

Drop-off 10am – 4pm

Drop off at HSSC Admissions door located on the south side of the building, down the sidewalk from the main entrance. Please ring the doorbell for assistance (grey button).

When We are Closed

The Sheboygan Police Department handles stray drop off when the shelter is closed. If you have found a domestic animal after hours, you can call the non-emergency number to request an officer, (920) 459-3333. 

If you have found a kitten or kittens, please check out the information below to determine the next best step.

Lost Pet/Reclaim

A pet can be reclaimed through our Admissions office any day of the week between 10am and 4pm. Proof of ownership and current rabies vaccination (certificate only) will be required. If your pet is not up to date on rabies, it is required and costs $30.

We also recommend submitting a report with Lost Dogs of Wisconsin here.

Animal(s) become property of the Humane Society of Sheboygan County after five (5) days.

Reclaiming Fees

  • $50 first day for fixed pets
  • $100 first day for intact pets
  • $30 kenneling fee per day that pet is here with us (this is in addition to fees listed above)
  • First time offenders that have a microchip – waive first day kenneling fee
  • First time offenders that do not have a microchip – waive first day kenneling fee if owner agrees to purchase microchip
    • Microchip cost is $35
  • Additional fees based on required rehabilitation
  • All fees subject to change without notice

Petco Love Lost

Humane Society of Sheboygan County has partnered with Petco Love Lost, a national tool designed to help reunite lost pets with their families faster. Petco Love Lost allows anyone — animal welfare organizations and the general public — to upload a photo of a lost or found pet and instantly search for matches nearby. Our website now features:

  • A scrollable directory of pets currently in our care who came in as strays (some animals in the directory are currently available for adoption as they have been in shelter care for longer than 5 days
  • An interactive map displaying lost and found reports, shelter pets, and community posts from across the region.

Wildlife of Wisconsin

We do not accept wildlife here at Humane Society of Sheboygan County. If you have a concern involving a wild animal, please contact Wildlife of Wisconsin (W.O.W.).

W.O.W. helps to rehabilitate, provide medical care for, and release recuperated wildlife in partnership with local landowners.

Pre-Surgery Instructions
  • Cats/dogs over 4 months old: Do NOT feed after 10:00pm the night before surgery (limited water intake is OK) no food or water the day of surgery.
  • Kittens/puppies under 4 months old: DO NOT withhold food or water prior to surgery.
  • Dogs must arrive with a collar and on leash (no retractable leashes). Cats and rabbits must be in a carrier.
  • Pets must be dropped off between 8:00am – 8:30am the day of surgery at the Admissions Department. (South side of the building near garage, door is labeled)
Important Notices

*The Following animals and conditions are excluded from the SNAP program:

  • Any animal that is actively showing signs of illness
  • Any animal that is revealed to have a health condition during their pre-surgery exam (example: heart murmur)
  • Any animal over 7 years of age
  • Any animal that is deemed to be obese
  • Any animal weighing over 100lbs or under 2lbs
  • Any female that has given birth within the previous 6 weeks
  • Animals that are too fearful or aggressive to be handled safely.

 

  • We will spay female animals that are “in heat” at the time of surgery, but they are at a higher surgical risk for bleeding during surgery and post-operatively. It is strongly recommended that you reschedule the surgery for 4-6 weeks post-cycle.
  • SNAP is not a feral or barn cat program. If you have feral or barn cats to be spayed or neutered, please utilize a TNR / Return to Field application.
  • ALL FEES MUST BE PAID IN ADVANCE. HSSC accepts cash and credit/debit cards only – NO personal checks. If you do not show up for your appointment at the scheduled time, you will forfeit the fees you paid. In the case of a shelter emergency, severe weather, or staff illness, we reserve the right to reschedule your appointment.
  • You MUST drop off and pick up your pet at the times scheduled. Your appointment will be cancelled if you do not drop off your pet during the allotted time. Boarding fees will be charged if you do not pick up your pet on time.
  • City of Sheboygan residents: You are required, by law to have your dog or cat licensed with the city. If your pet is not currently licensed, HSSC can assist you with licensure for an additional cost.
  • Applicants must supply all vaccination records for their pet, including licensing information, if current prior to service.
  • Our on-staff veterinarian performs the SNAP surgeries. No other surgical or medical services other than what is listed will be provided under the SNAP program. For follow-up preventive care or for services other than spay/neuter, please contact your primary veterinarian.
  • Animals brought in for surgery that have fleas will be charged $12.00 for flea treatment, plus an additional $12.00 for every other SNAP animal also on the schedule that day.
  • All spays/neuters will have a small tattoo placed near their incision to mark that they have been sterilized.
  • You are welcome to call to check up on your pet, but visits are not allowed.
