Updated Statement Regarding COVID-19: Changes Effective March 26, 2020 in response to “Safer at Home” order.

The health and safety of our animals, staff, volunteers and our entire community is of the utmost importance. The Humane Society of Sheboygan County is taking concerns surrounding COVID-19 very seriously and taking appropriate action in response to Governor Evers’ issuing the “Safer at Home” order. HSSC is taking action to do our part while still providing outstanding and essential care to the animals in our care. Please read our below update in response to the order.

Effective Thursday, March 26, 2020, HSSC will be closed for all services with the exception of surrender appointments and stray intake. We ask that people interested in surrendering their own animal to please hold off if non-emergent so our small facility can respond to emergency situations that arise in times of crisis like these. If it’s not at all possible for you to keep your animal, please call us at 920-458-2012 to schedule an appointment.

Unfortunately, this means that come this Thursday, March 26, we are unable to conduct services including adoptions, nail trims, and microchip implants until further notice. As the situation evolves and we have more information available, we will act accordingly. At this time, our CAAP food share program is still open for pick up, by appointment only. Please note that we cannot guarantee we will have food available as this program is run on donations and we will continue to run until we are unable to.

HSSC needs adopters and fosters now more than ever! We are encouraging anyone who has ever considered adopting or fostering a pet, to please act by this Wednesday evening, March 25, 2020. In our care, we currently have a number of cats, dogs, and small animals available for adoption between our shelter location and our two PetSmart Adoption Centers in Sheboygan Falls and Grafton. Please note that you must have an approved application on file prior to meeting with an animal. HSSC could really use your help in getting them out of the building by this Wednesday.

This is a crucial time and we truly appreciate the community stepping up.

Adoption applications can be downloaded here.

Please note that as of today, March 23, 2020, we have not had any employees test positive for the virus, nor are we aware of any visitors to the shelter that have tested positive. Common sense and good hygiene remain the best courses of action. At HSSC we have enhanced our already-strong cleaning and disinfecting protocols throughout our shelter. We have implemented staffing procedures that limit the amount of staff entering the facility while still ensuring the highest quality care for our animals. HSSC staff who are at a higher risk have been instructed to remain at home. We are so grateful to our volunteers, unfortunately all volunteer activity has been suspended for the time being in the best interest of everyone involved. Shelter leadership is monitoring the situation on an emergent basis and will act immediately on any changes and adaptations as needed.

This is an extremely challenging time for our shelter and we can assure you the animals in our care will continue to be our top priority. We are and will continue to suffer greatly from this difficult time. If you’re able to, please consider making a monetary donation of any amount here. Supply donations can be sent via Amazon to 3107 N 20th St, Sheboygan, WI 53083. Please refer to our wish list for needed items here.

We encourage you as a member of the community to please practice social distancing, take proper precautions, wash your hands and stay home! Thank you for your support!
